I call this my seaside dress! I have a weird, endearing (or annoying) habit of buying fabric whenever I can. I found this cotton fabric with an Ankara style print while I was on a lovely trip to the seaside. I designed this to have a classic v-neck front and back with a wide a-line skirt. Whenever I wear this I’m reminded of a beautiful sunny happy day. Tell me if you have garments that spark memories!🥰

Check me out in my one shoulder dress!
I drafted this myself with the original intention of having a sleeve to rival Alexis from Dynasty, but then I decided to keep the fashion a lil more this century. Great colourful fabric from @elliewhittakerstudio! It washes and presses like a dream too. Can I get bonus points for placing the word ‘paradise’ in the most interesting places? 🤔😂🤣What are you designing for summer?
This pretty fabric has a nice drape to it, however for this garment I wanted it to have a little more structure. I decided to underline with a heavier weight cotton to change the hand, and this negated the need for any lining.
I designed the pattern myself, the bodice has a small pleat at the shoulder front and back with a centre back zip. I would naturally have placed the zip at the side seam, but I originally had planned an overskirt, I'll explore that again on another garment.

I use her for draping and pattern cutting and adjust my patterns accordingly. This is Teddy and Dolly. I love them. Why? Because Mummy made them! Well she made Dolly’s dress for me and Mum taught me how to sew and knit. My mum, even though she was poor, still managed to pay for a short course to learn how to make this entire Teddy bear for me. I remember when he was bigger than me! But that’s Mum, always thinking about me. She was not a selfish sewer. Mum doesn’t sew anymore, but she is my major supporter and adviser for me when I do. Remember, when someone makes you something, be grateful and humble and focus on the love and respect for YOU that they put into that item. Happy International Women’s Day! I wish that with a click of my finger I could have people stop putting women against against each other. Violence against women would cease. Misogyny and misogynoir would become historical terms. Little girls will be praised for being smart. No one should have to feel that their natural appearance is anything less than beautiful. ‘Be kind’ will apply to all women, even the ones who break the rules, take up space, and speak their truth. Is it Spring yet? I’m wearing my white dress that I adapted from Vogue Patterns Easy options V8648. I omitted the several seams in the waistband & added a pleat detail to the sleeve. I fully lined it.
